A. ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING RESEARCH AND INFORMATION (EPRID

i. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT, EIA

EIA is a systematic process of environmental assessment to identify, evaluate, predict and present the probable environmental and social impacts of a proposed project. The process cuts across sooping, environmental baseline survey, impact prediction, impact mitigation, monitoring and auditing. In Nigeria, it is a statutory requirement for some categorized development projects as provided for in decree No. 86 of 1992.

ii. ENVIRONMENTAL BASELINE SURVEY

This is a survey/investigation of a given environment to reflect its status at a given point in time, usually before commencement of a particular action. All the identifiable ecosystems, notably flora, fauna, soil, water and air, with all their components and characteristics are considered alongside human socio-economic activities. The data/information generated would serve as bases for detecting changes in the environment through monitoring. The approach is usually multidisciplinary and scientific, drawing experts from pure and applied biological, physical and social sciences and engineering.

iii. ENVIRONMENTAL AUDITING

Environmental auditing is a periodic independent assessment of the current status of a party’s compliance with applicable environmental regulatory requirements and an evaluation of its performance vis-à-vis its own corporate environmental policies, set targets and standards.

iv. POST IMPACT ASSESSMENT (PIA)

This seeks to establish, through the multidisciplinary approach, the impacts of a particular action on the environment, measured against the environmental baseline data. Depending on the scope a PIA report would recommend remediation/restoration measures for impacted sites.

ENVIRONMENTAL SENSITIVITY INDEX (ESI) MAPPING AND SPILL (POLLUTION) CONTINGENCY PLANNING

In industrial environmental management, pollution prevention is usually top on the list. In spite of this, pollution still occurs, necessitating contingency planning because of their usual emergency nature. Suitable contingency planning can only be based on current environmental information/data. This is done through an Environmental sensitivity Index (ESI) mapping which is complementary to an Environmental Contingency Planning.

vi. SOCIO-ECONOMIC SURVEY

This provides first hand knowledge and understanding of local needs and of the existing network of socio-economic interactions at household, group and community levels. Sometimes, depending on the need, it also involves the sensitization and mobilization of the people for full and active participation and collaborative decision-making, the identification design and implementation of community projects, thereby fostering and entrenching in them, a sense of ownership.

2. CONSULTANCY

1. Environment

We carry out Environmental Impact assessment (EIA) of proposed projects as well as baseline ecological surveys. Our capability also include carrying to Environmental Contingency Planning, Environmental Management Plan, Partial EIA, Rapid Impact Assessment (PIA), Post Impact Assessment (PIA), compliance monitoring, remediation and obtaining waivers. Others include Ecosystem Studies and Resources Inventory: Soil Air and Water Quality Monitoring. This involves impact scoping and evaluation, migration measures, assessment of alternatives, decision making, public hearing, post auditing. Monitoring and we will provide results using Geographic Information System (GIS) format, at our client’s request.

We also apply the most current Relational Database Management Programs with statistical capabilities for matrices. Our study approach is designed to conform to the approved format of EIA process of Federal Ministry of Environment, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and International Standards.

2. Geological and Geotechnical Consulting

Geological, geotechnical, hydrological and hydro-geological investigations, solid mineral surveys and inventory, foundation, dam, erosion studies and detailed designs for civil and construction procedure.
